A camping stove (commonly referred to as a propane stove) is a stove specially designed to be portable and lightweight, as for camping. The division of portable stoves into several broad categories is based on the type of fuel used in the stove. The most common camping stove is a gas stove. In most of these the gas is stored as a liquid under pressure, but vaporizes immediately as it leaves the storage bottle, arriving at the burner as a gas. Smaller, lighter camping stove designs tend to use non-refillable gas cartridges containing butane, propane or a mixture of hydrocarbons.
