James T. from Newport,I feel that the SportDog trainer is a very good product. After two days I only had to use the tone button for my dog (Jake) to respond to my commands. The use of the tone button is used only for special commands to get his attention. He responds right away when he hears it.I feel it works great for my needs. Thank you Chris C. from Penfield, NYI have a young golden retriever, almost 18 months. I received the product with instruction and training manuals, both clear and easy to read. The training manual is geared more so for the hunting dog owner, but much of what is written can be gained for the general pet owner as well.
The collar unit allows the dog to swim, etc. This was important for me and have successfully had my dog in creeks and lakes for periods over an hour.
When I first tried the unit (8 settings), the lowest setting had no affect, I found at about 4 the dog did respond, but because my dog has quite a bit of fur around the collar area, his response was sporadic (many times he did not react to corrective action, oblivious). To remedy this I cut away some hair to make better contact with the skin area. Not sure if this is the right approach, but it does make the unit more effective.
Bottom line, I think the unit is well made, includes a number relevant features (sound can be activated before sending electric pulse, two different pulse options to use, water tight, good documentation). My only issue is if you have a dog with thick fur, you may have a challenge. |
