Glen V. from Walnut, CAThis Katana became one of my favorite after sharpening the blade razor sharp. You can't even touch the blade because you will get cut. It is very surprisingly on how nice it turned out. It is not a bad sword and I would compare it to my battle ready Bushido, of course after I did my hand sharpening. Please don't expect this to be out of the box.
I would recommend this sword to anyone. Mark C. from Columbia, SCI loved the Katana! It came very quickly and was easy to assemble. I would recommend this product to anyone who wants a nice sword! Leif K. from CaliforniaI am very please with the full tang kit Katana.
first of all, the Katana(blade) is 30 inches of hand forged high carbon steel. It's tang extends over 6 inches and is held in place by 2 Mekugi(bamboo pegs). The finish of the blade is hand-polished, while the Hamon(temper line) is visibly authentic and well formed. The edge does need some final sharpening. It takes an edge very well and is a good blade.
I am impressed by the Koshirae(metal collars & fasteners). They are made stout and entirely of antiqued iron, (most metal fitting are cast from cheap and weak alloys or out of "pot metal".
The Habaki(blade tang collar), Fuchi (spacers) Kashira(front collar and buttcap), of the Tsura(sword handle), Menuki(ornamental side pieces), and Tsuba (large oval hilt or "hand guard" are elegantly formed in a water pattern and are solid iron. (when assembles all parts are rigid).
The Saya is a fine black-laquered scabberd. My only complaint about this classic Katana is the Tsura is not covered with real same (rayskin).
Considering the price, it is a small detail. This is a "full-tilt" combat sword and is worth every penny spent, while remaining a beautiful work of art and history.
